Capacity Planning V2.0

A short R program providing tables and figure to estimate OTN data collection and storage needs.

TitleDescription
figuresFig 1 is an exponential curve fitted to POST operations reports in Table 1 and projected limits of tag code space. Fig 2 is from multiplying the Fig 1 curve by avg # of detects per tag (209) and # of bytes per detect (250). Fig 3-5 are a linear estimate from the planned OTN deployments in Table 2. Fig 6 is the combined cumulative storage estimate in Table 3.
R ProgramThis program tabulates Pacific Ocean Shelf Tracking (POST) and Ocean Tracking Network (OTN) reports and plans. These tables are used to predict and graph the # of tags and instruments for the period 2008-20. These predictions are then used to estimate storage needs (GBytes). The R programming environment can be obtained at - http://www.r-project.org/
tablesTable 1 is from Pacific Ocean Shelf Tracking (POST) operation reports, whereas Table 2 is from Ocean Tracking Network (OTN) planning reports. Table 3 is the product of instrument storage capacities and predicted instrument counts, both from Table 2.
